Russian language courses in Kazan
A wide range of courses is on offer at the University making it possible to study Russian whatever your level of competence and in combination with other more specialist subjects such as Russian culture, Tartar culture, Russian authors, Russian Opera, Russian folk music. The tuition on offer is very flexible and can be focussed on for example: conversation, pronunciation, practical grammar, literature, handwriting depending on your particular needs. Course materials and access to computers are provided for all course participants. All the courses on offer give intensive practice in listening, speaking and reading Russian.
Group courses
Those enrolled for a group course will be asked to take a short test to see which group they should be placed in on arrival. Groups usually consist of 5-7 people. Should a place on a group course at the right level not be available then an individual course package of 12 lessons per week will be organised. The small group sizes help to ensure that teachers can give each student a great deal of individual attention during their course of studies. Tuition is usually organised 5 days a week, 4 lessons per day. The tuition focuses on oral communication, listening and reading comprehension, writing, grammar and practical exercises. Course participants are also given the opportunity to work on phonetics, intonation, vocabulary, grammar and speech practice.
Individual courses
Individual courses are tailored to meet your exact needs and wishes. Courses can be arranged throughout the year. Tuition usually includes speaking, pronunciation and reading exercises, grammar, phonetics, Russian literature, Russian and Tartar culture, political and economic history.
Courses with a special focus
Courses with a special focus on for example Russian authors or Russian music are organised in small groups of between 5-7 people and consist of approx. 25 lessons per week and are on offer during August and September. Such courses can also be arranged at other times during the year depending on demand. These special courses are relatively intensive and include group tuition, seminars concerning the specialist subject, a study and cultural programme which involves visits to sites and places of interest in and around Kazan both on foot, by bus and even boat along the Volga. You can choose from the following specialist courses:
- Russian authors
- Economic and political history
- Russian literature and opera
- Russian folk music
One semester or an academic year
Courses lasting a semester are organised in small groups of between 5-7 students and consist of approx. 30 lessons per week. The start dates for the courses are 1st September for the autumn/winter semester and 1st February for the spring/summer semester. Seminars covering specialist topics are organised in addition to the language lessons. A semester is five months in duration.

Certificate
Having satisfactorily completed a course, students receive a certificate indicating the type and length of courses attended.
Cultural programme
A cultural programme is included as part of the course package. You will have the opportunity to visit museums, exhibitions, monuments, opera and theatres, as well as other historical places in and around Kazan. You will also be taken on bus and boat tours on the Volga and to other interesting places.
